This monochrome laser printer both prints and scans, but it does not fax; it is classified as a three-function (print/copy/scan) all-in-one (AIO) printer. It is a worthy addition to a home or micro office for a workaday mono laser with good speed, a low price tag, and a variety of connectivity options, though it is best for text printing with middling overall output quality.
With dimensions of 12.5 by 16.1 by 15.7 inches (HWD) and a weight of 25.6 pounds, the DCP-L2550DW should fit on your desk. Its two-line non-touch mono display, as well as related function buttons, can be used for setup and maintenance. A 250-sheet main tray plus a single-sheet multipurpose feeder provide a total paper capacity of 251 sheets.

The supports Google Cloud Print, works with the Brother iPrint&Scan software, and is AirPrint and Mopria-compatible for printing from iOS and Android devices. The DCP-L2550DW averaged 34.7 pages per minute (ppm) when printing the text-only (Word) section of our business applications suite, falling slightly short of Brother’s rated speed of 36ppm.
It printed our entire business suite—PDF, PowerPoint, and Excel files, as well as the aforementioned Word document—at a rate of 14.4ppm. The Brother HL-L2395DW produced comparable results, 33ppm for the text document and 14.6ppm for the entire suite. Although the Canon MF249dw took longer than the DCP-L2550DW to print our Word document, averaging 27.5ppm, it was faster in printing the whole suite, which it handled at 16.3ppm.
